Day Trip With Chocolate, Cheese, and Mountains

This small group tour visits the idyllic region of Canton Appenzell, where age-old traditions are still actively lived. And there is plenty of opportunity to sample some Swiss cheese and chocolate.

The tour starts by traveling along Lake Zurich and heading via Rapperswil to the hilly region of Appenzell. On the way, the coach stops at a farm, where guests have the opportunity to sample fresh cow’s milk. Also on the program is a visit to the Appenzell show dairy, complete with cheese-tasting.

Afterwards, a ride on the cable car takes you up to the summit of the panoramic mountain, Hoher Kasten. From the spectacular revolving restaurant (food not included), guests can enjoy a fabulous 360° view of the surrounding region. Back in the village of Appenzell, a stroll leads through the picturesque pedestrian zone, where typical, beautifully adorned half-timbered houses line the famous Landsgemeindeplatz square. Here tour participants can learn more about the political and historical traditions practiced by the people of Appenzell, and listen to other stories and anecdotes.

This is followed by a visit to a chocolate manufactory, including a chocolate-tasting session. The tour culminates in each participant being given a bag full of Swiss specialties before embarking on the return trip to Zurich.
