Werd Island

This walk from Zurich Main Station to the green oasis of Werd Island is an absolute classic and is particularly popular on weekends. 

The route begins in urban surroundings at Zurich Main Station. Already opposite the station, however, is the first sign of tranquil greenery – the picturesque Platzspitz Park behind the National Museum. Here, the River Limmat comes into view for the first time. 

Beyond the park, the path turns right over the bridge towards the Dynamo culture center. A popular venue for concerts and parties in the evening, with its bar and restaurant the Dynamo is a great place to relax during the day. If you keep walking, during the summer you will find the Oberer Letten lido, as well as various other restaurants (Gump, Stazione Paradiso, Panama, Park Platz). The Tanzhaus with its pretty Café Nude follows soon after. The route now leads along the Unterer Letten lido and the river, until after about an hour you reach the idyllic Werd Island. This is a perfect place for a break surrounded by nature. Whether a picnic, a dip in the cool river, or reading a book in the shade of an oak tree – this is an excursion that shows Zurich at its best.
