Way of St. James ‒ from Rapperswil to Einsiedeln

On this 17 km (11 mile) route between Rapperswil and Einsiedeln, hikers pass through beautiful landscapes and an important piece of world history.

Many pilgrims have already walked along this path, which, as part of the Way of St. James, leads from Rapperswil on Lake Zurich to Einsiedeln Abbey, a distance of some 17 kilometers (11 miles). Right at the beginning of the hike, a boardwalk leads across Lake Zurich to Hurden ‒ “walking on water” has never been so easy.

From the Hurden peninsula, the trail then continues to Pfäffikon. Here the first signs of the abbey are visible in the form of the school of agriculture and the medieval castle. There follows the ascent to the top of the St. Meinrad pass. Now it is no longer very far and soon the abbey with its huge forecourt ‒ incidentally, the second largest church square in Europe ‒ comes into view.
