Freibad Letzigraben

The open-air public bath designed by writer and architect Max Frisch treats guests to three swimming pools and a beautiful park.

The large open-air swimming facility at Letzigraben is just as popular among local families as guests from all over the world. For besides the large park area, the name of its famous architect attracts visitors to this municipal bath: it was designed by none other than the famous Swiss author and – prior to embarking on his writing career – architect Max Frisch.

The Freibad Letzigraben features a large swimming pool, a wave pool, a non-swimmer’s pool, and a children’s wading pool. Various barbecue sites and a two-story restaurant cater for the needs of hungry guests.

History/Architecture

While Max Frisch was responsible for designing the entrance, changing room and restaurant areas, Gustav Amman – who had already left his mark at the Bad Allenmoos – was in charge of the green areas. He created an extensive park with a large recreational area, a wonderful stock of trees, and various “outdoor living”-style buildings. At the heart of the facility is the large pavilion, which serves as a restaurant.
