Katzensee Lake

Nestling in a nature reserve, this small, idyllic lake is the favorite place of many stressed-out city dwellers.

The small oasis in Zurich’s metropolitan area is worth an excursion all year round. In summer, the natural lake at the edge of a wood attracts visitors with its 80-metre (260ft) long bathing beach. In spring and autumn, the natural surroundings are mainly enjoyed by walkers or joggers. And in winter, the Katzensee lake is the ideal refuge to escape the confines of the city – here you can breathe in the fresh, clean air and let your mind wander.

The air mattress stays at home

Numerous barbecue areas, shady trees, and a children’s playground make the Katzensee especially popular among families. As the lake is a nature reserve, air mattresses, swimming aids, and rubber dinghies are not permitted. If you do not take a picnic with you, snacks can be purchased at the kiosk. Nude bathing is also permitted in the separate naturist area.

Parking spaces are scarce

In summer, there is a chronic shortage of parking spaces at the Katzensee. Therefore the best way to get there is on foot, by bicycle, or by public transport.
