The First Point of Contact

Visitors will find knowledgeable tourist consultants at the Tourist Information in the main concourse of Zurich Main Station. They are pleased to provide information and insider tips on all matters relating to guests’ stays in Zurich. The Tourist Information is barrier-free.

General Opening Hours, Public Holidays, and Currency

Stores are generally open from Monday to Friday, between 9 am and 6 pm; on Saturdays and before local public holidays, many already close at 4 pm. Sundays and public holidays are days of rest. Only stores at Zurich Main StationZurich Airport, and gasoline stations are open on these days. 
Public Holidays: New Year‘s Day (Jan 1), Berchtold Day (Jan 2), Good Friday, Easter Monday, Labor Day (May 1), Ascension Day, Whit Monday, Swiss National Day (Aug 1), Christmas Day (Dec 25), Boxing Day (Dec 26). Opening hours during the Christmas and New Year period:

Main Station

Transport Hub and Point of Contact

Open from morning to night, 365 days a year, Zurich Main Station (HB for short) is the most important transportation hub, but also the place to go to get help for a multitude of problems: for example, it is home to an emergency medical center, as well as a pharmacy that is open until midnight.

History and Customs

2000 Years of History

Zurich has been inhabited for more than 2000 years. Back then, the Romans set up an outpost on the Lindenhof, which still enjoys a central location in the city today. Its elevated position directly overlooking the river was ideal for monitoring the traffic on the water.
